1. Getting Started
============================================================================
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
1.1 Installation
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
After unpacking the archieve, "Bombsquare" can either be started by
doubleclicking the Bombsquare-icon or it can be copied to harddisk using
the installer-script. All files are copied into a single drawer, so deleting
this drawer will remove the game completely.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
1.2 Idea of the Game
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
The idea of Bombsquare is based on the well known game "Minesweeper", which
features a simple yet packing gameplay.
In an area of 32 up to 160 tiles bombs are hidden in random places and you
have to find and disarm them. If you've completed a level you'll get some
points, and having lost your final life and played quite good, you'll
eventually have the chance to get into the highscore (only singleplayer
mode). But Bombsquare can also be played by two players simultaneously in a
split-screen. The size of the playfields is fixed to 80 squares then.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
1.3 The Playfield
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
All squares in the playfield are covered at the beginning of the game.
A first tile is revealed for each player by the computer. Starting
from there you turn around as many tiles as necessary.
A square can contain three different objects:
- It is empty, that means there is no bomb next to this tile.
- There is a number from 1 to 8, showing the quantity of bombs right next
around.
- There's a bomb beneath this tile, hopefully you've disarmed it...
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
1.3.1 Game Comntrols

mode and "Search Bomb" mode, the firebutton or the TAB-key performs the
action.
Player 2 controls his pointer either with the joystick in port 1 or

to continue.
Pressing ESC exits to the main menu (any score will be lost then).
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
1.3.2 Searching and Disarming Bombs
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
You can find bombs using the tiles containing any numbers. With a little
combination (and some luck) you'll know the tiles with the bombs.
If you turn up a bomb, you'll loose a life.
If you try to disarm a bomb, and no bomb is under that tile, you'll loose
one life, too.
And if the time is up - correct, you'll loose another life! Luckily there
are enough extra lives...
If you're sure to have found a bomb, just disarm it. Having disarmed
all bombs, you have won the level.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
1.3.3 Two-Player-Mode
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
In the two-player-mode Bombsquare is a bit different: both contrahents
have identic settings at the start (same number of bombs), and the game is
to disarm all bombs faster than the other player. So the game can become a
bit more hectic...
The player wins, if:
- he has disarmed all bombs first,
- his opponent has turned up a bomb or
- the opponent has tried to disarm a bomb where none has been.
In the first case the winner gets two points, in any other only one point.
After every round you can have a look at the actual scoretable, having
finished the final round (look at 2.2.1), the player with most points
has won.
